Texas suspends Kent Perkins 1 game for DWI arrest

Texas has suspended starting guard Kent Perkins one game, following his DWI arrest Friday morning.

The ban means Perkins won't play Saturday against Oklahoma State.

"I want to apologize to my team, my coaches, my family," Perkins told reporters Monday. "That's not me, not my character, not what I'm about.

"I'm a leader on this team and need to act like it."

Perkins has started two of three games this year, missing one due to injury. He's been part of a strong offensive line that's helped inject new life into the Longhorns' offense.

As part of his discipline, Perkins will undergo counseling and do community service.
