LSU fires head coach Les Miles, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron

Saturday's dramatic loss to Auburn can only be described as the straw that broke Les Miles' career at LSU.

The well-established coach in Louisiana is established no longer, as LSU fired Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron on Sunday.

The news, since confirmed by LSU, was originally reported by Ross Dellenger of The Advocate. Current defensive line coach Ed Orgeron will take over as interim head coach for the Tigers.

LSU is in the midst of its worst start to a season since Miles accepted the Tigers' head coaching position in 2005. Saturday's back-and-forth loss to Auburn slides the Tigers to 2-2 on the season, 1-1 in conference play, and tied for third in the SEC-West division.

The Advocate reported earlier Sunday, citing sources, that LSU leaders were expected to meet within the next 24 hours to discuss the direction of the football program as well as the status of both Miles and Cameron.

The offensive struggles throughout the season thus far have been front and center, with LSU the only FBS program that's failed to score a single point in the fourth quarter through all four games. The Tigers are currently ranked 119th out of 128 FBS schools in passing yards, in part due to Miles' known tendency to operate with a run-dominant offensive scheme.

Despite a call for action from fans leading up to Sunday, the buyout clause in Miles' contract left many thinking that a change in leadership was not meant to be. The buyout in Miles' contract is $12.9 million, but could in fact be less because he's already coached four games this season.

While the Tigers may have effectively taken themselves out of the playoff race with their most recent loss, there is still a chance to salvage a strong portion of the season. LSU is set to take on Missouri, another SEC team with a 2-2 record, this coming Saturday in what will be the first Tigers home game since 2004 without Miles on the sidelines.
