Benches clear after Nats' Cole throws behind Pirates' Kang

MLB.com

Things got testy Sunday between the Washington Nationals and Pittsburgh Pirates.

A day after the Nationals clinched the National League East, the teams' benches cleared in the bottom of the third inning after Washington starter A.J. Cole threw behind Pirates third baseman, Jung Ho Kang.

Both Cole and Pirates first baseman Sean Rodriguez were ejected.

In the top of the third inning, Kang was involved in a play with Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper, who awkwardly slid into third base after Kang appeared to lay down a fake tag. Harper eventually left the game with a hand injury.

Multiple reports have claimed Harper is dealing with a lingering shoulder injury, despite the team denying a report from Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated. He hasn't been able to duplicate his 2015 National League MVP numbers, hitting .243/.374/.440 with 24 home runs and 84 RBIs this season.
