Vikings' Treadwell to sit another week

The Minnesota Vikings made their prized first-round draft pick a healthy scratch for Sunday's game against the Carolina Panthers.

Despite major injuries to their starting quarterback (Teddy Bridgewater) and running back (Adrian Peterson), 23rd overall pick Laquon Treadwell can't seem to see the field. Going into a third week of play, Treadwell has dressed for one game and played just two snaps.

While fellow rookie wide receivers like Sterling Shepard of the New York Giants and Corey Coleman of the Cleveland Browns have been given the chance to shine, Treadwell is being brought along very slowly. After sitting in Week 1, he admitted to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that it was "mentally challenging" but an experience he had to go through. Head coach Mike Zimmer has suggested that the 21-year-old still has work to do to be able to make an impact.

In the meantime, Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs leads the league in receiving yards, but he's had little help as the team's second-leading receiver is Adam Thielen with eight catches and 95 yards.

It may be puzzling that a talent such as Treadwell has not been able to climb a depth chart that appears to lack playmakers, but it's possible he has still yet to fully recover from the damage of a broken leg he suffered in his sophomore year of college.

Regardless, Treadwell is vowing to remain patient as he waits for his call.
