Report: Giants' Jennings expected to sit with thumb injury vs. Redskins

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

The New York Giants will reportedly be a man short in the offensive backfield Sunday.

Veteran running back Rashad Jennings is expected miss the division matchup with the Washington Redskins due to a thumb injury suffered last week, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Jennings had been a limited participant in practice throughout the week, and there was an expectation he'd be able to play despite wearing a cast.

His surprise absence should push Shane Vereen into a lead role while potentially creating more opportunities for Orleans Darkwa and fifth-round rookie Paul Perkins in rotation.
