Rangers celebrate division title with booze-free toast

After winning the American League West for the second straight season, the Texas Rangers celebrated with their traditional ginger ale toasts in a clubhouse that includes recovering alcoholics Jeremy Jeffress and Matt Bush.

Jeffress, who was arrested Aug. 26 for driving while intoxicated, rejoined the Rangers on Friday after missing a month of action recovering in rehab. Bush, meanwhile, has enjoyed an impressive comeback season in the majors after the former top pick spent time in prison for incidents that included driving under the influence.

The Rangers' booze-free tradition began in 2010 with Josh Hamilton, who helped lead the team to a division title and won the AL MVP award after struggling with drugs and alcohol early in his career.

''It started in 2010,'' Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said, according to The Associated Press. ''Just to be respectful of both Matt and Jeremy, Matt especially, he's been with us since November, he's been up in the big leagues since May. You saw what he's capable of tonight. I'm really proud of him as a man, as a person first and then as a player second, it's out of respect for those guys.''

Former Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder, who retired this season due to chronic neck issues, took part in the celebrations as well, and will join his teammates on their playoff journey.
