The NFL has been keeping an eye on the riots taking place in downtown Charlotte, N.C. as the Carolina Panthers prepare to host the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The city has been gripped by violence and protests following the fatal shooting of Keith Lamont Scott by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer, but the league stated on Thursday it is planning to play the game in Charlotte, as scheduled.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police chief Kerr Putney supported that decision on Friday.

"We're in good shape for Sunday's game. We strongly encourage the NFL to allow our Panthers to be victorious on Sunday," Putney said, Jonathan Jones of Sports Illustrated reports.
