Zlatan calls Pogba critics 'jealous'

Manchester United's blockbuster summer signing Paul Pogba is, as to be expected, under quite a bit of scrutiny, with a world-record transfer fee now tied to his name.

But for teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic, critics of the young French midfielder need not weigh in on Pogba's early-season performances, especially after a Manchester derby loss to Manchester City last weekend.

"All the jealous people who talk about (Pogba) will swallow all of the words they have said about him," Ibrahimovic said, as quoted by ESPN FC. "He will only improve and will get everyone behind him."

While Ibrahimovic was quick to defend Pogba to the press, he has also struck a fast friendship with the Frenchman.

The two often exchange pleasantries through photos on social media, and while both players have big personalities off the field, there exists a mutual respect between them. It's a relationship Zlatan summarized succinctly.

"My relationship with Paul is easy: I speak, he listens," Ibrahimovic told SFR Sport, as quoted by ESPN FC. "Paul is a player with a lot of talent.

"Now, you have to be realistic: people are putting a lot of pressure on Paul. His transfer created a huge amount of buzz.

"I didn't know Paul before and, now that I do, I can tell you he's someone who works enormously. He really wants to improve and he has a super attitude. But you mustn't forget he's young. That's all I can say."
