Chicago Bears linebacker Pernell McPhee is in danger of starting the regular season on the physically unable to perform list due to a knee injury, a source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

If he does, he would miss the first six games of the campaign.

McPhee has been on the PUP list throughout training camp after undergoing knee surgery during the offseason. His rehab has been slow, notes Rapoport.

The pass-rusher racked up six sacks and 42 total tackles in his first season in Chicago in 2015. His loss could set back a linebacking corp that is primed to be among the strongest in the league after adding free agents Danny Trevathan and Jerrell Freeman, as well as first-round pick Leonard Floyd.
