Chargers cut James Jones

The San Diego Chargers have released veteran wide receiver James Jones.

Jones was signed in early August after Stevie Johnson was lost for the season with a torn meniscus, but could not make a big enough impact in the preseason to hang around.

With Jones out of the picture, it appears Tyrell Williams will be the Chargers' third receiver behind Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin.

Jones, 32, could catch on with another team in need of a big-bodied red-zone target, but he's unlikely to be anything more than a depth option at this point in his career.
