Browns release K'Waun Williams following injury dispute

The Cleveland Browns have released defensive back K'Waun Williams after an injury dispute between player and team, head coach Hue Jackson announced Monday.

Williams made the decision to sit for the preseason opener as a result of an ankle injury suffered during practice, and was given both a two-week suspension and fine from the Browns for conduct detrimental to the team.

The odd incident also reportedly included Williams leaving the stadium and threatening to retire, before officially reporting his ankle issue.

Williams reportedly sought a second opinion on his ankle, and it was determined that he'd require surgery.

He and his agency later announced that the penalties from the team would be appealed through the NFLPA.

Williams, who suited up for 26 games over his first two seasons, was expected to earn a role as the starting slot cornerback in 2016.
