Chiefs' Berry signs franchise tag, will practice Monday

Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry has officially brought an end to his holdout after signing his franchise tag tender at the team facility Sunday.

Berry is set to practice with the team Monday, but head coach Andy Reid told reporters that he's leaning against having him play in Thursday's fourth and final preseason game.

The conclusion of a standoff that lasted throughout training camp is a significant development for the Chiefs heading into the regular season.

Two weeks of practice should be more than enough time for the All-Pro safety to get back up to speed, putting the secondary at full strength for the Week 1 opener.

Berry earned his fourth career Pro Bowl appearance last season after returning from a battle with cancer to suit up for all 16 games and reemerge as a force on a stout Kansas City defense.
