Corey Seager continued padding his impressive rookie resume Saturday with his 23rd homer of the campaign, setting a single-season record for home runs by a Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop.

The first-inning blast off Cubs right-hander Jason Hammel broke a tie with Glenn Wright, who smashed 22 homers in 1930, and tied the game 1-1.

Seager's record-setting season has reached new levels of dominance in August, as the Dodgers' star rookie entered Saturday hitting .376/.431/.581 with four homers and seven doubles in 23 games this month.

The consensus front-runner for National League Rookie of the Year and a legitimate threat for MVP, Seager leads all major-league shortstops in average (.323), OBP (.377), and OPS (.921), while his 6.8 wins above replacement rank third just behind Mike Trout (7.1) and Kris Bryant (7.8), according to FanGraphs.
