In honor of late legendary women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, Tennessee will sport a commemorative decal on its football helmets this season.

The news was announced at a Saturday press conference by head coach Butch Jones, who was hired by the school around the time Summitt retired.

Summitt died on June 28 at 64 years of age. She lived the final years of her life with Alzheimer's, which got progressively worse in the weeks and months before her death. She set a standard for coaching greatness during her 38-year tenure with Tennessee, which began in 1974 and ended in 2012. She led the school to eight national championships and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2000.

The Volunteers open the season Thursday against Appalachian State.
