Less than a month into his Texas Rangers career, Jeremy Jeffress is running into off-field issues.

The right-hander was booked into Dallas County Jail early Friday morning and charged with driving while under the influence, according to Chris Siron and Naheed Rajwani of The Dallas Morning News.

Police said Jeffress was stopped at approximately 2:30 a.m. after he failed to signal a lane change and nearly hit a police cruiser.

When officers pulled him over, he reportedly told them he had three or four cups of Hennessy cognac mixed with Coca-Cola at a local club, and was driving his passenger to her car.

Police said he failed to keep his balance during a sobriety test before urinating on himself. He was taken into custody at 5:13 a.m. and released at 11 a.m. after posting a $500 bond.

The Rangers released a brief statement after the incident was first reported.

The Texas Rangers are aware of the situation involving Jeremy Jeffress that took place early this morning. At this time, we are in the process of gathering information and have no further comment.

General manager Jon Daniels told reporters Friday afternoon that Jeffress would be placed on the team's restricted list for one day, and the Rangers hope to activate him for Saturday's game. The team will not hand down any further discipline, though Major League Baseball is likely to conduct its own investigation.

"We're going to lean on the due process in Dallas and Major League Baseball's investigation," Daniels said.

Jeffress was acquired by the Rangers on Aug. 1 in the trade that also brought over catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the Milwaukee Brewers.

In August 2007, he was suspended 50 games under MLB's Joint Drug Program for using marijuana - his second positive test after getting a warning for a first offense.

In June 2009, he was banned 100 games after testing positive again. If he tests positive for a banned substance this time around, he'll receive a lifetime ban from Major League Baseball.
