Casillas left off Spain squad in favour of West Ham's Adrian

New Spain manager Julen Lopetegui has excluded Iker Casillas from the international squad ahead of next Thursday's friendly with Belgium, and the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Liechtenstein four days later.

Casillas is Spain's record holder with 167 senior appearances, but irked Lopetegui's predecessor Vicente del Bosque through his poor attitude at Euro 2016 while playing second fiddle to David De Gea.

Other notable exclusions from Lopetegui's first squad are Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas and Arsenal duo Hector Bellerin and Santi Cazorla.

The beneficiary of Casillas' dumping is Adrian, the West Ham United goalkeeper who earns his first call-up for Spain. There are also recalls for Diego Costa, Juan Mata, and Javi Martinez, who all missed Euro 2016.

Here is the squad in full:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea (Manchester United), Pepe Reina (Napoli), Adrian (West Ham)
