Origi, Can doubtful for Liverpool's trip to Tottenham

Liverpool duo Emre Can and Divock Origi are doubtful for Saturday's visit to White Hart Lane after picking up injuries during Tuesday's League Cup victory over Burton Albion.

Jurgen Klopp's lot progressed to the next round of the domestic cup, but not without casualties, with Can suffering from an ankle concern and Origi ailed by muscle cramps.

"We need to wait a little bit. With Emre there is nothing really serious in the ankle, but it is his ankle where he had a few problems in the past," Klopp said ahead of Saturday's clash at Tottenham.

"It should not be long, but maybe not for the Tottenham game."

Desperate for a bounce-back performance on the heels of a stunning 2-0 defeat at Burnley, Liverpool heads south to London to face Spurs in the third of three away matches to start the campaign.

Joining German international Can on the sidelines could be Origi, who impressed in scoring the opener in the 5-0 defeat of Burton.

"It's the same with Divock, it's not serious. There are different levels of cramp."

While neither injury is serious, Klopp concedes that precautionary reasons trump the need for rest at this juncture in the season.

"It's not about rest," Klopp said. "These boys recover in hours. If you have 50 games in your legs it's different but it's not the moment for this."
