With Everton reportedly on the cusp of signing Deportivo La Coruna striker Lucas Perez, it appears Arsenal is slated to swipe the Spaniard from under Toffee noses before the window slams shut on Aug. 31.

Desperate for a striker to both complement Olivier Giroud and quell the ever-growing dissent within Arsenal's faithful, manager Arsene Wenger is set to trigger the 27-year-old's release clause, sources told Sky Sports.

With the guarantee of Champions League football paired with the allure of living in the English capital, Perez reportedly prefers a move to Arsenal.

In a move that's strikingly similar to Manchester City's signing of Nolito, Perez's acquisition highlights an emphasis on winning now.

The similarities don't end there. Like Nolito did with Barcelona's reserves, Perez struggled to find minutes with another La Liga giant, Atletico Madrid. Both players emerged as left-wingers, and are versatile in attack, but while Nolito bounced around Spain's top flight before emerging last season at Celta Vigo, Perez's route has been atypical.

After bouncing from Atletico C in the Tercera Division, Perez had a decent spell with Rayo Vallecano B before a move to Ukraine, first with Karpaty Lviv then with Dynamo Kyiv. With 14 goals in 51 appearances in the Ukraine top tier, Perez switched to Thessaloniki side PAOK in 2013 before a return to Spain with Deportivo.

Plying his trade on the flank, Perez didn't find success until he was moved up top while with the Branquiazuis, enjoying his most productive campaign last season with 17 goals and eight assists in 36 appearances.

In shifting his focus from Lyon goal machine Alexandre Lacazette to Perez, it appears Wenger is slated to secure the services of the Deportivo local boy, despite the gaffer's insistence that Alexis Sanchez can thrive in the No. 9 hole.
