Nike's decision to stop making golf clubs shocked everyone - even its biggest active client on the PGA Tour.

World No. 5 Rory McIlroy was surprised by the company's decision, announced earlier in August, and said he only found out moments before everyone else.

"It was a shock to all of us," McIlroy said Wednesday, according to Jason Sobel of ESPN. "I got a call two hours before it was announced."

McIlroy signed a lucrative $200-million deal with Nike in 2013, but as the company transitions into focusing on apparel and footwear, he's in no rush to make a permanent switch to new clubs.

"I'm not going to commit to anything," McIlroy said. "I wouldn't be surprised to see me not go with a manufacturer for a year or two, just sort of play with what I want to play, play with what I'm comfortable with, and go from there."

More important than what's in his bag, McIlroy is focusing on the FedEx Cup, which begins this weekend with The Barclays at Bethpage Black.
