USC's Tee Martin: Alabama 'adopted what we do on offense'

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

According to Tee Martin, viewers can expect to see two very similar offenses on the field when Alabama faces USC at AT&T Stadium on Sept. 3.

The Trojans offensive coordinator told Mobile's WSNP 105.5 that Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin brought the same game plan to Alabama when he joined the program after being fired as USC's head coach in 2013. Martin is no stranger to Kiffin's approach, serving as receivers coach under him with the Pac-12 outfit.

"A couple of years ago, Lane pretty much adopted what we do on offense," Martin said. "From how they get plays in, the way they do the mechanics on offense, Alabama and Lane pretty much adopted what we do here at USC. We're friends, alot of us talk, over the years we shared ideas. Alabama's defensive staff came out and visited with our defensive staff last year."

The opening weekend contest will mark Kiffin's first game against his former school since his ouster, and he has thrived in his new role with the Crimson Tide. Alabama ranked 16th in the country in scoring during the 41-year-old's first season, and 30th last year as they captured the national championship.

Kiffin's name has been mentioned for various head coaching vacancies in the past, and it seems it's only a matter of time before he is leading a program yet again. First up will be a great challenge from a familiar foe, with whoever executes the offense at a higher level likely coming out the winner.
