Detroit Lions tight end Eric Ebron is expected to be ready for the club's regular season opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 11, and could even play in parts of the final preseason game, a source told Adam Caplan of ESPN.

Ebron reportedly suffered an ankle injury during practice in early August, and has yet to return.

The tight end was carted off the field and several reports initially said Ebron had suffered an Achilles injury, which could have sidelined his for a significant portion of the season.

It's good news for the Lions, who have little proven depth at tight end behind Ebron.
