Second-year running back Karlos Williams has gone unclaimed off waivers since the Buffalo Bills released him on Saturday, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

He will now be an unrestricted free agent.

Williams will still be subjected to a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy. He also showed up to Bills training camp severely overweight, which heavily contributed to his release.

Williams going unclaimed is somewhat of a surprise, given the low risk involved involved with acquiring him. If a team desired, they could bring him in for the last two weeks of preseason and tell him to get in shape by the time his suspension is up or else he'll be released again.

Williams ran for 517 yards on 93 attempts with nine total touchdowns in his rookie campaign last season.
