The final score is usually the last thing on a coach's mind when his team takes the field for a preseason contest. Using reps to prepare for games that actually matter, the focus instead lies on simply executing plays in various live situations.

But the New York Giants struggled in all such areas Saturday, getting shutout 21-0 by the Buffalo Bills. Could first-year head coach Ben McAdoo come up with at least one positive takeaway from the defeat?

"No."

Well, there you have it.

After an offseason in which massive contracts were handed out to bolster the defense, New York enters the 2016 campaign looking to reestablish itself as a playoff contender.

An underwhelming performance in the second of four preseason games does little to hurt their chances in that regard, but the coaching staff will certainly be looking for a better performance next week.

The third exhibition game serves as the regular season dress rehearsal for teams around the league - some starters will even play into the second half. The Giants will see how they measure up with the Jets on Thursday night.
