The bronze medal from the men's 4x100m relay won't be changing hands after an appeal filed United States was rejected by Rio 2016 officials Saturday.

It's a decision that will please the country's neighbors to the north, as Canada's relay team will retain the bronze medal, the country's first in the men's 4x100m relay since winning gold at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

The U.S. sprinters were celebrating what they thought was the country's first medal in the event since 2004. However, officials ruled that the team made an illegal exchange of the baton in the first pass which occurred outside the exchange zone.

USA Track and Field has yet to comment on the decision.

The bronze medal brings Canada's haul to 21 - its most at the Summer Olympics since collecting 22 at the 1996 games.
