Washington Redskins running back Matt Jones was diagnosed with an AC joint sprain after undergoing X-rays Friday evening.

The 23-year-old left the game during the first quarter and headed to the locker room for further examination.

"I don't think it'll be a long injury," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said of Jones postgame, via Master Tesfatsion of The Washington Post.

Jones rushed for 31 yards on seven carries before exiting the contest. If healthy, Jones is expected to be the Redskins' lead back for the upcoming season.

"Yeah, it's a little frustrating because we had a good drive going. I couldn't finish the drive because of that, so I was a little down on myself. You know, things happen, so I moved onto the next play and I'm ready to get better," Jones said postgame to reporters about his injury.

Washington emerged with a 22-18 victory over the New York Jets.
