Seth Curry compares his game to C.J. McCollum's

After showing flashes of shooting ability last season, Seth Curry is looking to establish himself in the NBA as a new member of the Dallas Mavericks.

The 6-foot-2 point guard has been studying film of other guards for ideas on how to create off the ball. In addition to examining the moves of his brother, Stephen, and Chris Paul, Curry has been familiarizing himself with how Portland Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum breaks down opposing defenses.

"I like his game," Curry told Rob Mahoney of SI. "I think we're similar in the way we play at our own methodical pace and create shots ...

"It's something I've always done just because I'm not gonna be the most athletic guy on the court, but I think I'm good at changing pace. I've got a good first step and things of that nature. So it's just about using your body to make the defense play at your tempo and react to you."

Curry latched on with Dallas after impressing the team with his long-range accuracy, having drained threes at a 45 percent clip in 2015-16 with the Sacramento Kings. He also posted a 60.3 percent true shooting rate.

It's worth noting, though, that 39 of the 50 3-pointers he made last season were assisted. The 25-year-old acknowledged he needs to improve on creating shots for himself.

"I feel like if I got a shot off, it has a good chance of going in. So it's finding ways of creating different shots, being smart," he said. "I watch film a lot, and different tricks that I can do to get my shot off the ball and creating ways to get shots off of pick-and-rolls or one-on-one situations like that."

If Curry can diversify his offensive arsenal, he should get opportunities under one of the league's top coaches at that end of the floor in Rick Carlisle. His shooting alone might be enough to get him some burn with the new-look Mavs.
