Tebow received offer from Venezuelan baseball team

Tim Tebow is set to workout for major-league scouts on Tuesday in Los Angeles, though the former NFL quarterback has already received an offer to play professional baseball.

He'll just have to leave North America to do so.

Aguilas del Zulia, a five-time champion of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League, extended an offer to Tebow's representatives on Monday to play winter ball with the club.

"He's a great talent," Aguilas general manager Luis Amaro told Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports. "He's an athlete. He's won the Heisman. He's won two national championships. I know baseball is a hard game, but he'll either adjust and show he's ready to play pro ball or not. I think it's low risk, high reward for Zulia."

Tebow hasn't played competitive baseball since high school but that hasn't stopped him from his pursuing a career in the majors. Amaro, the brother of Boston Red Sox first base coach Ruben Amaro Jr., believes he's giving Tebow a good opportunity to see if he can make it in a competitive league.

"In winter ball, we give guys a week to adjust, sometimes less, and if they don't adjust and we see the league is too competitive for them, we let them go," said Amaro said. "If he signs with us and plays with us and is helping our ballclub, we'd love to have him around for the whole winter."

Despite the lack of experience, the 29-year-old has generated plenty of interest as roughly 20 clubs - including the Toronto Blue Jays, Miami Marlins, Boston Red Sox, and San Diego Padres - will have scouts in attendance.
