Texas A&M's Justin Dunning out for season with torn ACL

Brendan Maloney / USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin received some bad news Thursday when it was learned that safety Justin Dunning will miss the entire 2016 season with a torn ACL, according to Brent Zwerneman of The Houston Chronicle.

The injury occurred in practice earlier in the week, and Sumlin had confirmed at the time that Dunning was being looked at by the Aggies' medical staff. Dunning will likely take a medical redshirt and look to return as a redshirt sophomore in 2017.

Dunning, a 6-foot-4, 225-pound sophomore from Whitehouse, Texas, saw quite a bit of playing time as a freshman and made his presence known with 20 tackles and 13 solo stops on the season as well as an interception against Western Carolina.

A former four-star recruit in the class of 2015, Dunning had also been recruited by myriad schools including Florida State, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas, and Texas Tech.
