Dodgers expect Ethier to return from broken leg next month

Allan Henry / USA TODAY Sports

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is nearing his 2016 debut.

The 34-year-old, who fractured his tibia March 22, has yet to appear in a game this season for the Dodgers, though manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday that Ethier will likely begin a rehab assignment soon and could return in mid-September.

Ethier increased his baseball activities in the last few days and was cleared to face live pitching for the first time since his injury. The team will announce when he'll head out on his rehab assignment in the coming days.

How much playing time he'll get is still up in the air, as the Dodgers traded for Josh Reddick at the trade deadline and have Joc Pederson and Howie Kendrick as everyday players.

Ethier is coming off a productive 2015 season, where he hit .294/.366/.486 with 14 home runs and 53 RBIs in 142 games.
