Saints release Hakeem Nicks

Jim O'Connor / US PRESSWIRE

The New Orleans Saints have cut wide receiver Hakeem Nicks 12 days after signing the veteran to a one-year deal, the team announced.

Nicks was signed in late July to replace injured receiver Vincent Brown as a depth option after working out for the team in May.

His deal with the Saints reportedly did not include a signing bonus, therefore it did not cost the team anything to cut him.

At just 28 years old, Nicks has found it difficult to latch onto a team since his first five seasons in the league with the New York Giants. He signed with the Indianapolis Colts in 2014, played in every game, and recorded 405 yards and four touchdowns, but returned to the Giants last season and saw limited action in just six games.
