Moments after signing Brandon Spikes to a one-year deal, the Buffalo Bills made another move to shore up their linebacker corps.

The Bills signed veteran linebacker David Hawthorne, his agent Jordan Woy confirmed Sunday.

That the Bills felt the need to sign two experienced linebackers within minutes of one another does not bode well for the extent of the injury to rookie Reggie Ragland. The second-round pick suffered a knee injury in practice Friday and there are fears it could be serious.

Hawthorne spent the past four seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He played in 11 games last year, starting in five, and recorded 33 total tackles and two forced fumbles. The Saints released him after the season for cap considerations. He spent his first four seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.
