Joey Votto is a man who wears many different hats on the baseball field. The Cincinnati Reds star is a Gold Glover at first base, an NL MVP, an on-base machine, and - quite often - an agitator of fans.

The 32-year-old seems to consistently get under ticket holders' skin whether at home in the Queen City or on the road in hostile territory. In many of these incidents, he even seems to enjoy testing the patience of fans - perhaps it's just his own way of making baseball fun again. With the outrageous incidents starting to pile up, let's rank Votto's top five villainous moments on the diamond.

'I don't sign for Cubs fans ... or kids'

The bad blood in the NL Central runs deep. During spring training in 2010, Votto rebuffed the requests of several young children looking for an autograph, telling them: "I don't sign for Cubs fans ... or kids." He later told the Associated Press that he refused them because the Cubs clinched their 2007 division title in Cincinnati. Later that year he continued his feud with the North Siders by refusing to congratulate Cubs outfielder Marlon Byrd - who'd later become his Reds teammate - after the NL won the 2010 All-Star Game.

Trolling the Nats fans

Say whatever you want about Votto, but don't ever accuse him of not having fun. Earlier this month, he ended the 11th inning of a Reds-Nationals game by catching a foul pop-up, then stared down the Nationals Park fans before snubbing them and returning to the dugout as the boos rained down. As usual, Votto was smiling like a Cheshire cat the whole time. Nats fans should have given him a break, though: It was in extra innings and he probably just wanted to go home.

Foul ball Phillies fakeout

That Nationals Park episode wasn't even his first foul ball trick of this season. When the Reds visited Citizens Bank Park, Votto went to toss a foul ball to some Phillies fans, only to psych them out and toss the ball to the umpire. He followed that up with a big display of emotion and a fist pump worthy of a game-winning homer that only incited the always hostile Philadelphia crowd further. "I was just having fun with them," Votto explained afterward. "They (Phillies fans) give you a hard time during the game, and that's my way of giving them a hard time back."

Paper airplane stomper

How would you like it if Joey Votto came to your workplace and threw a paper airplane at you? His smile made it clear he wasn't too upset when a fan tossed a paper plane onto the field at Dodger Stadium, but he sure riled up the crowd by angrily stomping on it and stuffing it into his pocket. That drew a roar of derisive taunts from the Dodgers faithful while Adrian Gonzalez playfully urged them on. All of it undoubtedly pleased Votto to no end.

Chastising an interfering home fan

The most recent incident occurred Tuesday when a Reds fan in the first row seemed to interfere with Votto as he tried to catch a foul ball. An irate Votto had what looked to be some words for the fan, and even grabbed his replica jersey for a moment. Unlike many of the other incidents, though, Votto was apologetic after his actions. Between innings, he brought the fan a personalized baseball to apologize for his behavior and even posed for a picture.
