North Dakota State athletics limits media access

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

Media outlets without broadcasting rights to North Dakota State athletics will see their access limited, the school announced Friday.

"We're just trying to protect our rights holders and protect ourselves," said school director of sales Jeremy Jorgenson, according to Kevin Schnepf of The Forum. "We've grown so much that we need to protect our brand."

The policy prohibits media outlets that don't have broadcast agreements with the school from:

  • showing extended game highlights on "special TV programs"
  • play-by-play live-blogging games
  • streaming or broadcasting regularly scheduled press conferences live
  • hosting pregame or postgame coverage and radio shows from NDSU facilities or property on game days. That includes both the Fargodome and its parking lot.
  • conducting one-on-one interviews during the season with the head football or basketball coaches on radio, TV, or internet unless the outlet receives written consent from NDSU. The school requires media outlets to ask for interviews with all players, and those coaches, 24 hours in advance.

The Bisons have media contracts with KVLY-TV, all North Dakota NBC affiliates, Midco Sports Network for men's and women's basketball, and Radio FM Media for radio coverage.
