Marlins president: Gordon needs to ask forgiveness from clubhouse

Miami Marlins president David Samson has no issues bringing second baseman Dee Gordon back to the club after his 80-game suspension concludes on Thursday.

"It is the end of his suspension. He has served it," Samson told Joe Frisaro of MLB.com. "He will be welcomed back into the clubhouse."

Gordon appeared in 21 games this season before it was announced in late April that he had been suspended for violating the league's performance-enhancing drug policy.

The reigning National League batting champion denied intentionally taking any prohibited substance, and said that he had no idea how it entered his body. Still, Gordon said he accepted the consequences and that he made a mistake.

"We're a pretty forgiving a society," Samson said. "It's important that Dee ask for that forgiveness, which he has, and he will receive that. He has to continue to work to get himself back in with his teammates, back in with the fans."

The 28-year-old is hitting .324/.349/.408 with four home runs, 27 doubles, and 64 stolen bases in 166 games over two seasons with the Marlins. He won't be eligible to play in the postseason should Miami make it as part of his punishment.
