Report: Rangers would deal Gallo, Profar for Sale

For years, the Texas Rangers have resisted dealing star prospects Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo in order to bring in a big-name talent. Chris Sale might finally sway them to do it.

The Rangers would reportedly be willing to include both Gallo and Profar in a trade for the Chicago White Sox ace, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

That the Rangers have interest in Sale is nothing new; as recently as last week they were being reported as making a "serious effort" to land the five-time All-Star. It would, however, take both Gallo and Profar to make it happen, and even then it's not 100 percent certain the White Sox would bite. A report earlier this month suggested the Pale Hose turned down a "king's ransom" for Sale, who's under team control for another two seasons.

Sale would instantly make the Rangers' staff perhaps the best in the American League, as he'd form one-third of a formidable top three in the rotation alongside Cole Hamels and Yu Darvish.

Although the Rangers apparently aren't reluctant to part with both of their prized youngsters for Sale, Heyman noted the internal sticking point seems to be over what young pitcher or pitchers would be sent to Chicago in addition to the two position players. The Rangers' deep system boasts two of MLB Pipeline's top 100 pitching prospects in Luis Ortiz (the Rangers' No. 3 prospect) and Yohander Mendez (Rangers' No. 4), as well as (No. 5 prospect) Dillon Tate.

Gallo, known for his prodigious power, has yet to find a permanent position in Texas thanks to Adrian Beltre's presence at third base as well as Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland across the diamond at first. The team's No. 1 prospect has played in just four big-league games this season.

Profar has shown no ill effects in 2016 after missing two full seasons due to injuries. The 23-year-old owns a .294/.347/.411 line over 49 games while spending time at all four infield positions. Like Gallo, he's been unable to find a permanent spot with the Rangers.
