Falcons cut Devin Hester

Dale Zanine / USA TODAY Sports

The Atlanta Falcons released veteran return man Devin Hester on Tuesday, the team announced.

Hester had offseason surgery on his toe and may not be fully healthy.

The NFL's all-time leader in return touchdowns (20) spent the last two seasons with the Falcons and the previous eight with the Chicago Bears.

Hester made a small impact as a receiver in 2014, catching 38 catches for 504 yards and two touchdowns, but didn't catch a pass last season in five games played.

At 33 years old and with minimal value outside special teams, Hester may be hard-pressed to find a new team. Nonetheless, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Hester isn't considering retirement.
