Tyronn Lue is being rewarded with a contract extension by the Cleveland Cavaliers after helping take the team to the franchise's first NBA championship, thus putting an end to the city's 52-year title drought.

The Cavaliers and Lue have agreed to a five-year, $35-million extension, league sources told The Vertical's Adrian Wojnarowski. Four of the years will be fully guaranteed, reports ESPN's Dave McMenamin.

He will make more money than he ever did as a player, totaling $21.3 million during his 11-year run.

Lue had been working the sidelines as an associate head coach prior to being promoted to head coach in January following the dismissal of David Blatt, despite the team's conference-best 30-11 record at the time.

Upon receiving his new role, the now 39-year-old reportedly inked a deal worth over $9.5 million for three years, although it was later established that he had never signed a new contract. In fact, all he did was restructure his then four-year, $6.5-million deal as an assistant.

This new contract puts Lue on level terms with both Stan Van Gundy of the Detroit Pistons and Scott Brooks of the Washington Wizards, who are both being compensated the same amount over the same number of years for their respective clubs. Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle signed the same deal prior to last season.

Cleveland went 27-14 with Lue at the helm to close out the 2015-16 regular season. The team then went on to sweep the Pistons and Atlanta Hawks in the opening two rounds of the playoffs, bounce the Toronto Raptors in the Eastern Conference finals in six games, and overcome a 3-1 deficit to stun the 73-win Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.
