Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva looks set to miss the start of the Premier League season after picking up a hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old was forced to leave a preseason friendly against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday and is now expected to miss up to a month after scans on his hamstring revealed a serious strain, James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo reports.

Leiva is expected to remain with the team during its tour of the United States, where he'll reportedly receive treatment in California.

The injury could also hamper Galatasaray's efforts to lure the Brazilian away from Anfield. The Turkish side has apparently expressed interest in signing Lucas, who's struggled to find playing time under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Last summer, a move away to Besiktas was called off once a spot opened up in the squad after Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson went down with an injury.
