Louisville's Trevon Young to redshirt for 2016 season

Louisville will be without Trevon Young for the entire 2016 season as the standout linebacker will redshirt and continue his recovery from a dislocated hip suffered in last year's bowl game versus Texas A&M.

"We're going to miss Trevon," head coach Bobby Petrino said during Friday's ACC Kickoff. "He's a very, very good player, particularly on third down. He put a lot of pressure (on quarterbacks), made some big plays to help us win games. He was really stressing out about this deal (of trying to play in 2016), and he just got to a point where he didn't (get) better for a while."

Young was one of the Cardinals' stars on defense during a breakout 2015 campaign, registering 8.5 sacks and 32 tackles. Petrino admitted the decision has lifted a weight off the talented linebacker's shoulders.

"I think it's been a relief to him to know that he's redshirting," Petrino said. "His mother tells me that it's really helped relieve some anxiety that he was going through. He still have a very bright future ahead of him."

Young will be eligible as a redshirt senior for the 2017 season.
