A relentless downpour ended the party a little early Thursday at U.S. Cellular Field, where, following a two-hour, five-minute rain delay, the umpiring crew decided to call the game, giving the Detroit Tigers a 2-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox after only 6 1/2 innings of baseball.

Buoyed by a solid outing from Mike Pelfrey and a pair of solo home runs from Ian Kinsler and Miguel Cabrera, the Tigers enjoyed a one-run lead when the skies opened in the middle of the seventh, giving Detroit its first rain-shortened victory since Aug. 30, 2013.

Asked after the four-hour, 13-minute affair if it was worth the wait, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus - whose club is now 4-3 since the All-Star break - kept his answer concise.

"Yeah," Ausmus told reporters.
