Team needs: 3 more moves Liverpool should make in the transfer window

If Daniel Sturridge retains his fitness for most of the 2016-17 campaign, Jurgen Klopp could boast one of the most dangerous strike forces in the Premier League.

The oft-sidelined England international, Danny Ings, Roberto Firmino, and Divock Origi have been further complemented with the £30-million signing of Sadio Mane from Southampton this summer. With some consistency from Philippe Coutinho behind the rotating throng up front, it could be hard for opponents to stymie the red swathes of attacks from August.

Considering last season's poor eighth-place finish, though, the Reds are still a work in progress.

Here are three more moves Liverpool needs to make in the summer transfer window:

Re-evaluate team's identity

Liverpool has a great tradition of captains. Emlyn Hughes, Alan Hansen, and Steven Gerrard are just a few of the names that skippered with great distinction and made the armband one of the most cherished items in the English game.

Then Brendan Rodgers elected Jordan Henderson as captain last year - the poorest player to marshal things for the Reds since the early 1960s.

Not only are Henderson's leadership credentials questionable, he's not a particularly good footballer either. There's no doubting his exertions, but his brain (or self-belief) is several steps ahead of his physical capabilities when it comes to spraying a pass.

Considering the increased transfer budgets across the division due to the new television rights deal and how coveted homegrown players are, it makes sense to cash in on Henderson.

Georginio Wijnaldum is a much, much better option.

Can Moreno really cut it?

Since the summer of 2014, a peculiar draught's been felt at Anfield. The corners are enclosed and the stadium is surrounded by terraced homes, so its source is rather mysterious - until you realise that Alberto Moreno has left one side of the pitch wide open again.

His defensive inadequacies often provide the window for the opposing right winger's Saturday afternoon to be a breeze. His positioning is poor, and are his ventures forward even that good? He averaged as many successful dribbles per game as Lucas Leiva last season.

At 24, Moreno has time to improve his game, but in a season where Liverpool only has to contend with domestic duty, it needs to make a charge for glory. A long-term pursuit of Leicester City's Ben Chilwell has shown no signs of reaching fruition this summer, but Klopp may benefit from delving back into the Bundesliga for this role.

Potential targets: Ben Chilwell (Leicester City), Ricardo Rodriguez (VfL Wolfsburg)

Bolster goalkeeping options

Klopp has quietly strengthened the central defence through the free signing of Joel Matip - one of the best pieces of businesses in the English transfer window - and £4.2-million man Ragnar Klavan.

Between the sticks remains a concern, though. New goalkeeper Loris Karius has proven himself a talented shot-stopper in the past three seasons at FSV Mainz 05, but at 23 may not be intended for a regular starting berth just yet. That leaves duties to Simon Mignolet, the hapless Belgian who's continually shown he lacks the self-belief and concentration to cut it in the upper echelons of the division.

With Danny Ward and Adam Bogdan out on season-long loans with Huddersfield Town and Wigan Athletic respectively, cover - or someone simply proven at this level - is lacking.

Potential targets: Willy Caballero (Manchester City), Roman Weidenfeller (Borussia Dortmund)
