Police recommend assault charges against Cardinals' Clemons

Scottsdale Police are recommending Arizona Cardinals safety Chris Clemons be charged for the assault of a 25-year-old woman outside an area nightclub in May.

A woman was knocked unconscious during the incident and, though witness accounts vary as to what happened, according to Yihyn Jeong of The Arizona Republic, police are pushing for assault with reckless injury and disorderly conduct charges.

The victim, who knows Clemons through a friend, says the Cardinals safety struck her in the face directly after getting in a heated altercation and being separated. She fell backwards and hit her head, getting "completely knocked out."

Clemons declined to comment on the incident through his agent, but denied that he had any role in the assault during a June interview with police, saying he believed another woman struck her.

The veteran tallied five tackles in seven games for the Cardinals in limited playing time last season.
