Stenson: I'd need 10 majors to reach Ibrahimovic status in Sweden

A major champion, yes. But Zlatan he certainly isn't.

Though Henrik Stenson is willing to admit his profile was raised with winning Sweden's first men's major title at the 145th Open Championship, the 40-year-old is sensible enough to understand that he ranks rungs below iconic footballer Zlatan Ibrahimovic in terms of status back home.

"I think I said I would need to win 10 majors to get up to his recognition but maybe five will do it. We'll see! One at a time," Stenson said, via BBC Radio.

"This is huge back home and it has been quite chaotic with all the media, but it is all good and I am just going to try to recharge."

Upon replenishment, Stenson will soon have the opportunity to draw closer to Zlatan's level of stardom. He'll participate in the final major of the tour season next weekend at Baltusrol, and will then be one of the favorites - and Sweden's better hopes for gold - at Rio 2016.
