Portugal rewards Santos with extension

Reuters

On the heels of a first major tournament victory, Portugal has extended the contract of Euro 2016-winning manager Fernando Santos.

The new deal will see Santos, 61, with A Selecao through Euro 2020, though the other terms were not disclosed, according to a statement on the Portuguese Football Association's website.

The Portugal gig was Santos' second at the helm of a national team after bossing Greece for four years, leading them to the last eight of Euro 2012. That result earned the former Porto and Sporting Lisbon manager a two-year extension than ended when the country was bounced from the group stage at World Cup 2014.

Fernando Gomes, the president of the FPF, will officially unveil the news at a presser on Thursday.
