Kansas coach David Beaty: 'We’ve got to win games'

It's been tough sledding if you are a Kansas Jayhawks fan lately. The Jayhawks went 0-12 last season and haven't posted a winning record since 2008, when they went 8-5.

Kansas opens up its 2016 campaign against Rhode Island, a program that has lost 25 of it's last 27 games, but Jayhawks head coach David Beaty isn't taking the Rams for granted in the opener.

"We are completely and totaled focused on the most important game in the history of our program, which is the next one, Rhode Island," Beaty said at Big 12 media days. He added, "I don't know who we play next, I don't care, we are focused on Rhode Island and that's the most important game that we have every played in our lives."

After the team finished the season without a win for just the second time in the school's history, it's an understandable response for a program that has lost 15 straight games.

"The Jayhawk Nation deserves better than what we were able to give them and what they’ve gotten in the recent past. Our deal now is we’ve got to win games. That’s why we’re here. We have to win football games."

Kansas opens with Rhode Island, Ohio, and Memphis before beginning conference play at Texas Tech on Sept. 29.
