TCU head coach Gary Patterson announced during Big 12 media days on Monday that running back Shaun Nixon will miss the 2016 season due to an undisclosed injury.

Nixon came to the Horned Frogs as a highly touted prospect, ranked by ESPN as the 18th-best running back in the 2014 class. In his first season on campus, the 5-foot-10 Austin native saw limited action in the backfield, lining up as a receiver in most offensive sets. He ended the campaign with 47 catches for 501 yards and one touchdown, and was expected to make the move back to running back for the 2016 season.

While Nixon's injury certainly hurts TCU's depth, the school recently added Michigan's Derrick Green as a graduate transfer for the upcoming campaign. While the 6-foot, 227-pounder was disappointing in his time with the Wolverines, he entered school as the fifth-ranked running back in the 2013 class, and could see a rejuvenation in the Big 12.
