Marshall to receive $1.4M from South Carolina for 2018 game

Ben Queen / USA TODAY Sports

It appears Marshall had financial motivation to add South Carolina to its 2018 schedule.

The Thundering Herd will receive a school record $1.4 million for visiting the Gamecocks in 2018.

"We’re excited to play an SEC school, especially one that is in a fertile recruiting ground for our program and within driving distance for our fans," said athletic director Mike Hamrick. "We had an opportunity to play a game of this caliber in 2018 and it was too good to pass up."

It will be the second time the teams have met, with Marshall winning the previous meeting in 1998.

This trip to South Carolina will be a nice payday for the school, win or lose.
