Purdue, Matt Painter agree to 3-year extension

Despite a disappointing first-round loss to Little Rock at this year's NCAA tournament, Purdue still has confidence in Matt Painter.

The Boilermakers inked Painter to a three-year contract extension Sunday, the head coach confirmed to Jeff Goodman of ESPN. Painter's new deal will keep him with Purdue through the 2021-22 campaign.

His March Madness exit notwithstanding, Painter's done a solid job since he took over the Boilermakers. The 45-year-old guided Purdue to eight 20-plus win seasons and has only missed out on the NCAA tournament three times in his 11-year tenure.

Painter is also a three-time Big Ten Coach of the Year.
