Deontay Wilder remains the WBC heavyweight champion of the world.

Wilder improved to 37-0 (36 knockouts) on Saturday night in Birmingham, Ala., defeating Chris Arreola via TKO. The defeated boxer's corner called the fight after eight rounds, when Arreola was left bloody and his left eye swollen shut.

Wilder almost finished the fight in the fourth round, when he dropped Arreola to the mat with a series of lefts.

Arreola's record falls to 36-5-1, while Wilder has now successfully defended his belt four times.

Wilder landed 152 punches to Arreola's 52, and was taken to a local hospital to deal with his injuries, according to the Associated Press. The champion's "biceps was badly disfigured," according to ESPN's Dan Rafaeli.
