Richard Williams released from hospital after suffering stroke

While Serena and Venus Williams were capturing their 14th Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon last week, their father was apparently recovering from a stroke.

Richard Williams suffered a stroke sometime before his daughters' doubles title and Serena's record-tying singles title on Sunday, his wife told Radar Online's Noelani Montero.

"His condition is fair," said Lakeisha Williams, who is Richard's third wife and not Serena and Venus' mother. "He's up and walking around, but he's not at 100 percent."

Lakeisha said Richard was released from the hospital last week, but still has a ways to go in his recovery. He hasn't, however, been cooperative.

"He needs speech therapy, psychological therapy, and physical therapy but for now he refused," she said. "I'm trying to get him under control and relaxed so that when we come back from out of town we could try to get that going. But he doesn't wish to be bothered with anybody. ... He thinks we are just going to take him back to the hospital, but that is not correct."

Richard trained and coached Serena and Venus from a young age through their early pro years, but has taken a less active role in his daughters' careers in recent years.
